Macrame is a textile technique that uses knots to create wall art, jewellery, bags, lampshades, plant hangers, containers and even clothing. Some designers are even incorporating macrame into their catwalk designs.
Like other textiles, macrame is 'big' at the moment, in terms of its popularity, the size of the yarns and the constructions that can be made using knots.
Macrame can be combined with other textile crafts as well to create fringing, decorative edges, pockets, cuffs, shoulder artwork.
Thick ropes and cords such as the Trap Art 6mm cotton cord and the Megalo wool felted yarn, make majestic wall pieces while finer yarns such as the Trap-Art 1.5mm and hemp and bamboo yarns are great for smaller pieces such as jewellery and belts.
Macrame jute has come a long way and is available in beautiful colours.
